This study employed Contingent Valuation Method to measure the economic value of a natural forest found in northern Showa of the Amhara region, Ethiopia. It was measured by identifying the factors that determine households willingness to pay for a hypothetical community plantation. Double bounded contingent valuation followed by an open ended question was used. The sample size was determined using the Cohen statistical power analysis. The Tobit model with sample selection was used to control the selectivity bias. The anchor and shift effect probit model was also used to control the anchor and shift bias. The mean willingness to pay was found to be Birr 19.75 annually which is relatively higher than the mean willingness to pay found at other places by other researchers using similar methods. The presence of community plantations and the type of contribution made to establish them were found to be significant factors that affect willingness to pay. Labour contribution was the most preferred type and female respondents were willing to pay more than male respondents. It was also found that the natural forest was the source of firewood, timber production, charcoal production and grazing. A place should be assigned for community plantation and planting should be started soon and female participation in forest management should be encouraged so that the deforestation of the natural forest will be minimized
