The Impact of Community–Based Forest Management on Poverty Alleviation in Ethiopia: Case Study of Adaba-Dodola Forest Dwellers Association/Wajib

This study attempts to ascertain the socio – economic differences between forest dwellers /WAJIB and non‐forest dwellers/NON‐WAJIB, identify the perception of the households about the benefit of forest resources, and analyse the average treatment effect of Community Based Forest Management /WAJIB, using income as an outcome indicator. For this purpose, a survey of 275 household heads and key informants interview were undertaken in Adaba and Dodola districts, Oromia Regional State. The propensity score matching methods was used to find out the average treatment effect of Community Based Forest Management using per adult income of the household as an outcome indicator. It confirms that participating in forest dwellers association /WAJIB considerably increases the households’ income and plays a key role in poverty reduction. The overall study concludes that Community Based Forest Management establishment is largely successful in improving the income of the forest dwellers. Finally the study recommends that a further development and improvement of WAJIB is essential.
