The major agenda of the 30th General assembly of the Ethiopian Economics Association held on 9 December 2023 was to elect Executive committee members of the association who will serve for the next three years. To this effect Dr. Amdissa requested volunteers to facilitate the election. Accordingly, Dr. Alemayehu Seyoum, Dr. Fikadu Gelaw and Ms. Mihret Kaleb volunteered to serve as electoral bored of the day.
The electoral members then explained the required procedures for voting to elect EC members. They indicated three EC members who served the association for two terms (Dr. Tewodros Makonnen, Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Hailu Eliyas, member; and Dr. Atnafu Gebremeskel, Member) and one EC member who served for one term (Mr. Zinash Kefale, treasurer) need to be replaced by new members. The list of nominees (which were obtained from members’ online nomination were initially indicated to the members. Consequently, members voted based on explanations given by the electoral board and by some of the nominees who were attending the GA. The participants voted and the votes were counted by the electoral committee in an open and transparent way.
Accordingly, Prof. Tassew Woldehanna has been elected to serve as a President of the EEA, Dr. Worku Gebeyehu to serve as an Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Martha Kibru to serve as a Treasurer, and Dr. Tadesse Kuma and Dr. Birhanu Denu to serve as members of the Executive Committee of the EEA. The EC approved the election process and the outcome.
