EEA has conducted Workshop on Inflation on December 18, 2021.

The Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA) has organized a half day conference on December 18, 2021 titled “Inflation in Ethiopia”: Causes, Costs and Policy Options. Opening and welcome remark was made by Dr. Amdissa Teshome, president of the association. Dr. Degye Goshu, research and policy analysis director of EEA has presented key findings of the current comprehensive empirical study conducted by EEA. The study has identified demand and supply-side causes of inflation, measured its impacts on individual households’ and national economy. The study has provided short term and long term policy recommendations such as improving agricultural and industrial production and productivity, improving export performance, modernizing tax collection and management system, and food rationing for low income groups, among others. About 222 EEA members gathered from national and international institutions have attended the workshop. The workshop was chaired by Dr, Tewodros Mekonnen, country economist from International Growth Centre (IGC), executive committee member and editor in chief of Ethiopian Journal of Economics (EJE). The cost of workshop is fully covered by Open Society Initiative for East Africa (OSIEA), and EEA is thankful for the organization. The association is going to organize validation workshop of the study on December 29, 2021 in presence of government officials, academicals and practitioners.

On, the occasion,the Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA) awarded best thesis and essay winners of Dr. Eshetu Chole and best BA essay winners of Mekonenn Tadesse memorial awards of 2020/2021. Mr. Hussien Ali who received best MSc award and Hana Endashew who won best essay awards of the year are from Arba Minch University.  Families of Eshetu Chole and Mekonenn Tadesse are invited to deliver financial rewards and certificates prepared by EEA. EEA would like to congratulate the winner students and Arba Minch University for this great achievement.
