The Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA) held the 2nd annual workshop of the Consortium of Ethiopian Economics Departments (CEED) on January 12, 2023 at EEA’s multipurpose hall, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. A total of 47 participants from 35 universities have attended the workshop. A welcome remark was delivered by Prof Mengistu Ketema, chief executive officer of the EEA. On the occasion, Prof. Mengistu has expressed his gratitude for all universities who travel long distance to attend the workshop and support the objectives of CEED. He also thanked the European Union (EU) for the financial support. Following the opening speech, Dr. Adem Feto from the EEA has made a presentation on “Agriculture-Industry Linkages for Employment and Economic Transformation in Ethiopia”. Participants have raised questions and comments on the presentation, and reflection was made by Dr. Adem. Dr. Degye Goshu, director for research and policy analysis division of the EEA has moderated and concluded the session.
Dr. Semeneh Bessie, director for partnership and communication division has made a presentation on the one year performance report of CEED. The participants have raised questions and provided comments on the report. The participants have also appreciated the EEA for successfully leading the CEED for the last one year.
The discussion was chaired by Prof Mengistu Ketema. Prof Mengistu and Dr. Semeneh have also reflected on the questions and clarified on some concerns raised by representatives from member universities. Following the completion of the EEA’s leadership term, Professor Mengistu gave the chance to nominate universities that can take CEED leadership role for the coming one year. Accordingly, Arsi, Bahir Dar, and Dilla universities have showed interest to take the leadership role and host the next CEED workshop. Participants then voted in favor of one of the three universities and the counted vote showed Arsi University as the winner. Representatives of Arsi University have also pledged to efficiently play the CEED leadership role for the coming one year.
