The Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA) held inception workshop on December 29, 2022 to conduct a research on ‘Human Development Index’ for Oromia Region. Prof. Mengistu Ketema, the CEO of the EEA has made a welcome speech. In his speech, Prof Mengistu thanked the participants and the Oromia Regional State Planning and Development Commission for inviting the EEA to conduct researches on HDI, Rural Out-Migration and Saving-Investment in the Region. Mr. Teshome Nigussie, vice commissionaire of Oromia planning and development commission, has made an opening remark. In his remark, Mr. Teshome has appreciated the effort make by the EEA and the interest to support the regional state.
The HDI technical proposal was presented by Dr. Adem Feto from EEA. As part of the HDI research, the EEA has prepared and presented two technical proposals: ‘Rural Out migration in Oromia Regional State: Trends, Causes, and Implications’ and ‘Saving and Investment Dynamics in Oromia region, Ethiopia’ presented by Dr. Semeneh Bessie and Dr. Abule Mehare from the EEA
Following the presentations, participants have provided constrictive feedbacks, raised questions and clarification on the technical proposals and data collection tools, and the research team has reflected on the questions. A total of 35 participants selected from different bureaus of the Oromia regional state attended the workshop. Dr. Degye Goshu from the EEA has moderated the workshop.
