The Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA) has effectively organized its 19th International Conference on the Ethiopian Economy from July 22-23, 2022. A total of 325 participants from different parts of the country and abroad have participated in the conference.
Professor Mengistu Ketema, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the EEA briefly introduced the conference schedule and recognized the presence of the guest of honor, a keynote speaker, and conference participants. Following this, Dr. Lemma Gudissa vice president of the EEA has delivered a welcome remark, in which he acknowledged the presence of two distinguished senior government officials: the guest of honor H.E. Ato Ahmed Shide, the minister for Ministry of Finance of Ethiopia, and H.E Dr. Yinager Dessie, governor of the national bank of Ethiopia. Following the welcome speech, the Honorable Ato Ahmed Shide, made an opening statement. In his remark, his excellency has confirmed the government’s interest to closely work with the EEA on various national agenda. On top of that, H.E. Ato Ahmed noted his hopes that the conference would serve as an opportunity for economists to promote and support the implementation of the Home-Grown Economic Reform agenda and the 10-year perspective development plan of the country.
Following the opening speech, H.E. Dr. Yinager Dessie has made an impressive keynote speech focusing on the practices, performances and challenges of the National banks of Ethiopia. In his address, he motivated young economists to closely follow and understand what the government is currently undertaking in terms of transforming the finical sector. In his speech, Dr. Yinager has also empathized the benefits of liberalizing selected public enterprises including the financial sectors in the country.
The conference went on successfully for two days. A total of 35 papers (25 in four parallel sessions and nine in plenary session) were presented and discussed.
Finally, Mengistu, the CEO, has made a brief concluding remark and thanked all the stakeholders who contributed for the successful organization of the conference.
