Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – August 30, 2024: A consultative seminar titled “Ethiopia’s Contribution to the IGAD Food Security and Nutrition Strategy” took place today at the Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA) headquarters. The seminar was part of the ongoing efforts to revise and enhance the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development’s (IGAD) regional food security and nutrition strategy, first introduced in 2020.
The event brought together policymakers, experts, and stakeholders to assess Ethiopia’s food and nutrition security policies in light of IGAD’s updated strategy. Dr. Amdissa Teshome, an independent consultant, presented a comprehensive report that sparked lively discussions. Participants focused on identifying Ethiopia’s strengths and areas requiring improvement, while also exploring how the country’s national policies could align with and contribute to the broader regional strategy.
Key topics included the mapping of Ethiopia’s contributions, the integration of regional strategies, and how the IGAD framework can bolster national efforts to combat food insecurity. The event underscored the critical importance of collaboration for improved food security across the region.
