Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – January 30, 2025, The Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA) hosted a workshop to validate preliminary findings from a scoping study on Ethiopia’s agent banking ecosystem, jointly led by EEA and Retail Finance Distribution (ReFinD) at the University of Ghana. The study maps key actors, analyzes market structure, agent incentives, and regulatory challenges. Experts discussed fintech roles, mobile money, and banking hurdles. The findings aim to inform policies for a more inclusive financial sector. Feedback from the workshop will refine the final report to support future policy discussions and sector development.
