Arsi University in collaboration with the Ethiopian Economics Association organized the 3rd annual workshop of the Consortium of Ethiopian Economics Departments (CEED) on 30th December 2023 at Arsi University (main campus), Asella, Ethiopia. A total of 39 participants from 8 universities and institutions have attended the workshop. Dr. Bonso Bude, Chief Executive Officer of the office of the president, Arsi University, delivered welcoming remarks. In his remark, Dr. Bonso has expressed his gratitude for all universities who traveled across different corners of the country to attend the workshop and support the objectives of CEED. Following the opining remark Mr. Lema Teshome, Dean of College of Business and Economics, delivered, an opening remark. In his remark Mr. Lemma, reiterated on the importance of the consortium and its potential. Following the opening remarks, Mr. Dawit Teshale from the EEA presented on “Does Ethiopia Benefit from Joining the BRICS? Perceptions and Global Trends” and Dr. Sisay Demisew from Arsi University presented on “Debt Sustainability”. Participants have raised questions and comments on the presentation, and the presenters made clarifications. Mr. Lema Teshome has also made a presentation on the one-year performance report of CEED, and challenges encountered.
Following the completion of the Arsi University’s leading role of the CEED for one year, participants were given a chance to nominate universities that can take CEED leadership role for the coming one year, 2024. Accordingly, Kebri Dehar, Ambo and Oda Bultum, Universities have showed interest to take the leadership role and host the next CEED workshop. Participants then voted in favor of one of the three universities and Kebri Dehar University scored the highest vote counted. Arsi University officially handed over the leading role of the CEED to Representatives of Kebri Dehar University, Mr. Yohannis Kumie.
Finally, Dr. Abule Mehare, acting director for partnership and communication of the EEA, delivered a closing remark. In his remark, Dr. Abule expressed his appreciation to Arsi University for organizing such a vibrant workshop.
