A new working paper titled “Who is Corrupt in Ethiopia” reveals the widespread nature of corruption affecting economies worldwide, with a particular focus on Ethiopia. Utilizing data from the World Values Survey and Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index, the study introduces the Multidimensional Corruption Index (MCI) to assess corruption involving state authorities, business executives, local authorities, public service providers, and journalists. Key findings indicate that Ethiopia is ranked 98th in 2023 with a CPI of 37%, showing a significant rise in corruption over the past three years. The adverse effects of corruption on socioeconomic progress and governance are evident, calling for urgent revitalization and enforcement of anti-corruption policies.
