The Ethiopian Economics Association has organized a regional workshop on October 30/2021 titled “Global Foundational Analysis to Close Gender Profitability Gap (GPG)”. The workshop is a part of collaborative project being conducted in collaboration with New York University of Abu Dhabi, Vassar College, USA and Addis Ababa University College of Development Studies. More than 35 participants from different ministries, regional bureaus, stakeholders from CSOs, project and development partners have attended the workshop.
Dr. Amdisa Tehsome, president of the EEA made an opening remark. Four presentations were made during the half day conference. Dr. Lamessa Tariku, coordinator of the GPG project at EEA, has presented the overview of the project, the project components, project team and project timeline and deliverables. Dr. Morgan Hardy, co-principal investigator of the global component of the project and Professor of Economics at New York University Abu Dhabi has made presentation on initial findings and current status of Global Foundational Analysis to Close Gender Profitability Gap (GPG). Presentation on “Gender Balance and Women Economic Empowerment for Transformative Gender Policy in Ethiopia” was made by Dr. Helen Berga, Assistant professor of Economics at Addis Ababa University and associate researcher of the EEA. The final presentation on “Interdisciplinary analysis on the barriers to women’s work in Ethiopia” was made by Addis Ababa University College of Development Studies team.
A very productive discussion was made with the participants and relevant inputs and feedbacks were obtained on each presentation. The discussions were moderated by Dr. Degye Goshu, Director for Research and policy Analysis at EEA. The final closing remark and the way forwards were made by Prof. Mengistu, CEO of the EEA. Prof. Mengistu thanked all participants for the productive discussion and relevant feedback they provided for the research team.
