During the inaugural conference held on May 25, 2024, in Samara, Ethiopia, three pivotal institutions of the Afar region signed a landmark memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA). This MOU aims to foster collaboration on research capacity building and support the sustained economic growth of the region and beyond.
The MOU was signed by the Afar National Regional State Planning and Development Bureau, Samara University, the Afar Region Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Fund Office, and the EEA. The leaders who signed this significant agreement were Mr. Hamid Duula, Head of the Planning and Development Bureau, Dr. Abdurahman Kedir, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Samara University; Mr. Nuradin Sadik, Head of the Afar Region Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Fund Office; and Prof. Mengistu Ketema, CEO of EEA. Their signatures symbolize a unified commitment to the economic development of the Afar region.
During the event, all parties emphasized the importance of collective action towards informed policymaking and enhancing economic development. They highlighted that the collaborative efforts envisioned in the MOU would lead to impactful research, better resource utilization, and strategic planning that aligns with the unique needs and opportunities of the Afar region.
