It is with profound sadness that the Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA) mourns the passing of Professor Beyene Petros, a prominent professional, a committed public servant, and an exemplary contributor to Ethiopia’s policymaking landscape.
The EEA had the privilege of collaborating with Professor Beyene on numerous initiatives, and his unwavering support of our Association stands as a testament to his dedication to fostering intellectual growth and policy impact in Ethiopia. Under his leadership, PSI and the EEA enjoyed a strong partnership, defined by his openness, readiness to collaborate, and profound insights. His willingness to engage and contribute to our work was instrumental in many of our endeavors, helping guide us with his deep knowledge and vision.
One of the most recent highlights of this collaboration was his participation as guest of honor at our 21st International Conference, held on July 19-20, 2024. His contributions to the discussions and his vision for Ethiopia’s development left an indelible mark on the event. We were also fortunate to have had the opportunity to work closely with him, particularly as we had been collaborating on an upcoming international conference focused on Ethiopia’s macroeconomic reforms, a topic that he passionately followed and supported.
Professor Beyene’s professional legacy is one of advancing knowledge, fostering meaningful collaboration, and promoting reforms that benefit the country. His influence as a scholar, policymaker, and leader will continue to resonate for years to come, inspiring future generations to follow in his footsteps.
On behalf of the entire EEA community, we extend our deepest condolences to the family of Professor Beyene Petros, his friends, colleagues, and the people of Ethiopia. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
With heartfelt sympathies,
The Ethiopian Economics Association
