Training on Applied Welfare Analysis

The Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA) is pleased to invite expressions of interest from qualified female members of the Association for an upcoming training program on applied welfare analysis using the Distributive Analysis STATA Package (DASP). This training will provide participants with the essential skills and techniques to analyze poverty and inequality data effectively and apply distributive analysis tools in a professional or academic context. The training is particularly aimed to enhance the capacity of female EEA members in welfare analysis using standard analytical software packages.

Objectives

This intensive three-day training program aims to equip participants with knowledge and practical skills for measuring, analyzing, and interpreting poverty and inequality using DASP. Participants will learn core concepts, gain hands-on experience in data management, and practice deriving critical insights through software-based analysis.

The main workshop objectives are to:

  • Develop a strong foundational understanding of poverty and inequality concepts: Equip participants with comprehensive knowledge of key concepts, measures, and indicators used in poverty and inequality analysis.
  • Enhance practical skills in data management and analysis using DASP: Train participants to effectively manipulate and manage data for poverty and inequality studies, leveraging the capabilities of DASP in the STATA environment.
  • Enable the estimation and interpretation of poverty and inequality indices: Provide participants with the skills to estimate and interpret alternative indices of poverty and inequality and to analyze these metrics for meaningful insights.
  • Foster competency in decomposing and visualizing poverty and inequality data: Prepare participants to decompose indices across different population subgroups and generate poverty and inequality curves, enhancing their ability to communicate complex data insights clearly.
