Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – February 18, 2025: The BRIDGE+ Project, in collaboration with the Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA), launched its initiative to boost forage seed and biomass commercialization in Ethiopia. The inception workshop gathered key stakeholders, researchers, and policy experts to explore opportunities, challenges, and policy frameworks for strengthening the country’s market-oriented forage production sector. Dr. Abule Mehare, Director of Partnership and Communication at the EEA, introduced the workshop’s objectives and expected outcomes, setting a collaborative tone for the day. Dr. Degye Goshu, Director of Research and Policy Analysis at the EEA, delivered a warm welcoming speech, followed by an opening remark from Dr. Zelalem Yilma, Strategic Deputy Project Manager of BRIDGE+, who emphasized the critical role of market-oriented forage development in enhancing livestock productivity and agricultural sustainability.
The event featured insightful presentations, including a comprehensive overview of the BRIDGE+ Project by Zelalem Atnaf and a detailed Commercial Forage Work Plan presented by Prof. Ajebu Nurfeta. These sessions encouraged participants to provide feedback and engage in discussions that refined the study’s approach. Dr. Arega Shumete led afternoon sessions focusing on milestone schedules and data collection tools, ensuring clarity and alignment among stakeholders. The open dialogue highlighted the enthusiasm and commitment of attendees to drive impactful change in Ethiopia’s livestock sector.
The workshop concluded with a collaborative agreement on roles, timelines, and administrative processes. Stakeholders expressed optimism about the study’s potential to support agricultural resilience and economic growth through a thriving forage seed and biomass supply system. As the BRIDGE+ Project moves forward, its partners are dedicated to maintaining momentum and delivering actionable insights for Ethiopia’s sustainable development.
