The Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA) hosted a validation workshop today on the research study titled “Exploring the Systemic Changes and Influence of External Actors in Changing Policies and Practices of Financial Institutions: Ethiopia’s Financial Sector Case Study.” The workshop, held at the EEA Conference Room, brought together key stakeholders, researchers, and policymakers to discuss the findings of the study.
The research, funded by the Mastercard Foundation, was undertaken in collaboration with Future Africa Consulting, with the aim of analyzing how systemic changes and external influences shape Ethiopia’s financial landscape. The study provides critical insights into evolving financial policies and institutional practices, highlighting the role of international organizations, regulatory shifts, and market dynamics in the sector’s transformation.
The workshop commenced with a welcoming remark by Prof. Mengistu Ketema, CEO of EEA, followed by a detailed research report presentation by Dr. Mezid N. Keraga and Dr. Fetene Bogale, moderated by Dr. Degye Goshu. Participants engaged in a vibrant discussion, exchanging perspectives on policy implications and the future trajectory of Ethiopia’s financial institutions.
In his closing remarks, Prof. Mengistu Ketema emphasized the importance of evidence-based research in shaping financial policies and fostering inclusive economic growth. He also acknowledged the support of the Mastercard Foundation and the collaborative efforts of Future Africa Consulting in making the study possible.
The event concluded with a networking lunch, providing attendees with an opportunity to further deliberate on key issues and explore potential areas for future research and policy engagement.
