EEA’s 32nd General Assembly Concludes with Unanimous Approvals

Addis Ababa, October 5, 2025,  The Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA) successfully held its 32nd General Assembly on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at the EEA Conference Hall in Addis Ababa. Members gathered to review key reports, deliberate on pressing economic issues, and approve future plans of the Association and its Income Generating Activity (IGA).

The program commenced with registration, followed by a warm welcoming address delivered by Professor Tassew Woldehanna, President of the EEA, and moderated by Dr. Addis Kassahun, Vice President of the Association. The highlight of the opening session was a presentation by Dr. Abule Mehare on “Rethinking Development Finance in Ethiopia: A Rapid Assessment of ODA Cuts, Debt Crisis, and Grassroots Realities.” This was followed by an engaging discussion session with participants contributing constructive insights.

After a short tea and coffee break, the assembly reconvened for the roll-call to confirm quorum, presided over by Professor Tassew Woldehanna and moderated by Dr. Berhanun Denu. Subsequent sessions focused on reviewing the Audit Report of 2024/25 (EEA, IGA, and consolidated), presented by the external auditor, and the Annual Performance Reports and Plans of both EEA and IGA. Prof. Mengistu Ketema, CEO of the EEA, and Mr. Tamrat Afework presented their respective reports and outlined forward-looking strategies for 2025/26.

Participants then engaged in a comprehensive discussion, after which all reports and plans were unanimously approved. Further, the Assembly deliberated on the EEA’s Bylaw Revision Proposal presented by Prof. Mengistu Ketema. Following a thorough discussion, the revision was unanimously endorsed.

The Assembly concluded with a closing remark by Professor Tassew Woldehanna, who commended members for their active participation and reaffirmed EEA’s commitment to strengthening economic research and policy dialogue in Ethiopia. The program was formally closed with a communal lunch hosted by EEA-IGA.

In sum, all agenda items, ranging from audit reports and performance plans to bylaw amendments, were thoroughly discussed and unanimously approved, reflecting the strong consensus and unity among EEA members in steering the Association toward its strategic objectives.
