Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – In a significant collaboration aimed at addressing Ethiopia’s housing deficit, the Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA) and the Construction Management Institute (CMI) convened at the CMI Headquarters this Tuesday to launch a pivotal feasibility study for a national affordable housing project.
Prof. Mengistu Ketema, CEO of the EEA, presented the Inception Report that will guide the study, emphasizing a rigorous and timely research process to ensure high-quality outcomes.

The Director General of the CMI, Engineer Tamrat Mulu, echoed the project’s profound national significance. “We approach this task with a deep sense of duty,” he stated. “This is not a pursuit of profit, but a response to the call of our motherland. Solving the housing challenge we see at the national level is a civic obligation we must all shoulder.”

The comprehensive study, outlined in the report, will focus on identifying cost-effective, high-quality, and fast-track construction technologies. It will also analyze the project’s macroeconomic benefits, assess policy and supply chain frameworks, and identify implementation capacity gaps to ensure the national target is achievable.

“We are dedicated to a rigorous and unbiased research process,” he said. Professor Mengistu underscored the national importance of the assignment, describing it as “a civic and professional duty to contribute to solving one of Ethiopia’s most pressing challenges.” He emphasized that stakeholder feedback will be fully incorporated before the report’s finalization, ensuring the study reflects both scientific rigor and practical relevance.
