The Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA) today (December 12, 2025), organized and hosted the inception workshop for the Human Development Index (HDI) study of Shaggar City at the EEA headquarters in Addis Ababa. The event marked the formal launch of a collaborative research effort between the EEA and the Shaggar City Plan and Development Office.

During the workshop, both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to working closely in generating reliable data and high-quality research outputs that will support evidence-based urban development planning in Shaggar City, Oromia National Regional State.

Participants discussed the study’s objectives, methodological approach, and expected outcomes, emphasizing the importance of accurate human development indicators in informing inclusive and sustainable policy decisions. The collaboration is expected to strengthen analytical capacity and enhance the city’s ability to monitor progress and design targeted interventions.

The study team will continue engaging with stakeholders and local institutions as the research moves forward.
