Addis Ababa, September 19, 2026: The Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA) recognized outstanding academic and research achievements through its annual awards ceremony held during the 33rd General Assembly on September 19, 2026, at the EEA Conference Hall in Addis Ababa. The ceremony was part of the official General Assembly program and brought together EEA members, academics, researchers, and invited guests.
The awards honor excellence in doctoral dissertations, master’s theses, and undergraduate essays, while commemorating the contributions of distinguished Ethiopian economists, former presidents of the Association, and scholars through the Wolde Amha, Eshetu Chole, and Mekonnen Tadesse Memorial Awards.
In the Wolde Amha Memorial Award for outstanding doctoral dissertations, Kebede Bekele Geleto (PhD) of Addis Ababa University received the First Best Doctoral Dissertation Award, while Minyahil Alemu (PhD) of Jimma University received the Second Best Doctoral Dissertation Award.
In the Eshetu Chole Memorial Award for outstanding theses, Habtamu Bekele of Addis Ababa University was recognized with the First Best Thesis Award, while Abdulfetah Mohammed of Haramaya University received the Second Best Thesis Award.
In the Mekonnen Tadesse Memorial Award for outstanding undergraduate essays, Amanuel Regasa of Jimma University received the First Best Essay Award, while Beriso Guja of Arsi University was recognized with the Second Best Essay Award.
The awards ceremony was conducted under the leadership of Professor Tassew Woldehanna, President of the Ethiopian Economics Association, together with the families of the late Dr. Wolde Amha and Dr. Eshetu Chole, whose legacies continue to be commemorated through these awards.
Through these awards, the EEA continues to encourage excellence in economic research and academic scholarship and to support the development of the next generation of Ethiopian economists and researchers. The recognition of scholars from Addis Ababa University, Jimma University, Haramaya University, and Arsi University also highlights the breadth of academic talent contributing to Ethiopia’s economics profession and research community.
