Addis Ababa, November 3, 2025: The Construction Management Institute (CMI) and the Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA) have officially signed a contract agreement for the implementation of a national priority project titled “Feasibility Study on Technology Options for Large-Scale Affordable Housing Construction in Ethiopia.”
The signing ceremony took place at CMI headquarters in Addis Ababa, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to identify and deploy innovative, cost-effective, and scalable construction technologies to address Ethiopia’s growing demand for affordable housing.
The agreement was signed by H.E. Eng. Kidist Mamo, Vice Director of CMI, and Professor Mengistu Ketema, CEO of the Ethiopian Economics Association.
In her remarks, H.E. Eng. Kidist underscored the urgency of executing the project within the planned timeline, emphasizing its national priority status and the importance of maintaining high-quality standards throughout the process.
“This study carries immense national importance. We expect timely completion and excellence in delivery, as the results will directly inform policy and investment decisions in the housing sector,” she stated.
Echoing her sentiment, Prof. Mengistu Ketema reaffirmed the EEA’s commitment to delivering the study with the highest professional and technical rigor.
“The Ethiopian Economics Association is proud to contribute to this critical national initiative. We are fully committed to meeting the agreed timeframe and ensuring the quality of deliverables, consistent with EEA’s long-standing culture of excellence and evidence-based research,” he noted.
The agreement tasks the EEA to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study that evaluates various technology options for large-scale affordable housing construction in Ethiopia. The study will serve as a cornerstone for guiding the Ministry of Urban and Infrastructure and related public bodies in scaling up sustainable, efficient, and affordable housing solutions nationwide.
This collaboration symbolizes a strong partnership between Ethiopia’s policy and research institutions, uniting practical implementation capacity and excellence to address one of the country’s most pressing development challenges.
The EEA expressed pride in being entrusted with this responsibility and reiterated its dedication to supporting evidence-based policymaking and strategic national development efforts.
