Addis Ababa, September 19, 2026: The Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA) held its 33rd General Assembly on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the EEA Conference Hall in Addis Ababa, bringing together members of the Association to review its performance during the 2025/26 financial year, consider its plans and priorities for 2026/27, and deliberate on key institutional matters.
The meeting opened with a welcoming address by Professor Tassew Woldehanna, President of the Ethiopian Economics Association, followed by the annual awards ceremony recognizing outstanding academic achievements in doctoral dissertations, master’s theses, and undergraduate essays. The awards were presented under the Wolde Amha, Eshetu Chole, and Mekonnen Tadesse Memorial Awards, which commemorate the contributions of distinguished Ethiopian economists, former leaders of the Association, and scholars.
Following the awards, the meeting featured a presentation on an independent study assessing the impacts of EEA’s engagements and initiatives, followed by a discussion among participants. The study formed part of the Association’s efforts to assess the outcomes and contributions of its activities and initiatives.
The formal business of the Association then proceeded with the roll-call for quorum and consideration of the External Audit Report for 2025/26, covering EEA, EEA-IGA, and the consolidated accounts. Members also considered the EEA Annual Report for 2025/26 and Annual Plan for 2026/27, presented by Professor Mengistu Ketema, as well as the IGA Annual Report for 2025/26 and Annual Plan for 2026/27, presented by Mr. Tamrat Afework. Following deliberations, all the reports and plans presented to the meeting were approved unanimously by the members.
The meeting also included the election of the Association’s Executive Committee. The previous Executive Committee members, Professor Tassew Woldehanna, who served as President; Dr. Worku Gebeyehu, Editor-in-Chief; Dr. Martha Kibru, Treasurer; and Dr. Tadesse Kuma, Member, were elected to continue serving in their respective positions. In addition, Dr. Sisay Debebe was newly elected as a member of the Executive Committee. The election was conducted through an open and transparent process, reflecting the Association’s commitment to participatory governance and member engagement.
The meeting concluded with closing remarks by Professor Tassew Woldehanna, followed by a luncheon bringing together members and participants.
