The 14th International Conference on the Ethiopian Economy Held
The Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA) organized the 14th International Conference on the Ethiopian Economy which was held from July 21-23, 2016 in its Conference Hall in Addis Ababa. The conference was co-organized by the Ethiopian Strategy Support Program (ESSP II) of the International Food Policy Research Institute. H.E Ato Newai Gebre-Ab, Economic adviser to the prime minster and Executive Director to theEthiopian Development Research Institute, opened the conference. In his opening speech, he appreciated the contributions of the Ethiopian Economics Association and urged it to continue making its fruitful efforts in economic policy research as well as policy formulation and implementation. At the conference more than 90 presentations were made in four plenary and six parallel sessions focusing on the agricultural, industrial, social and service sectors. The three-day conference attracted about 750 participants from different organizations both from within and outside Ethiopia. Partner institutions which presented their papers include IFPRI, EDRI, IDS, AEMFI, IGC, UNDP, UNECA, World Bank, Young Lives, IDPR, AKLDP, FSS and ILRI. The participants are drawn from Federal and Regional Government Offices, Universities across the country, Civil Society Organizations, International organizations, local and international Research institutes and EEA members. It also attracted large number of Ethiopian and non-Ethiopian researchers who are doing research on the Ethiopian Economy from the rest of the world. The conference has got wide media coverage and has got sponsorship support from IDRC-CRDI, ESSP, EDRI, AKLDP Ethiopia, UNECA, UNDP, FES of Germany, IGC, UKaid, GLM_LIC, IZA, University of Oxford, LSMS-ISA and the world bank etc.
