Validation Workshop Held on Feasibility Study for Technology Options in Ethiopia’s Massive Affordable Housing Program

Addis Ababa, February 26, 2026: A high-level validation workshop on the Feasibility Study of Technology Options for Massive Affordable Housing Construction in Ethiopia was successfully conducted today at Capital Hotel, Addis Ababa, organized jointly by the Construction Management Institute (CMI) and the Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA).

The workshop brought together senior government officials, academics, researchers, industry experts, and real estate developers to rigorously review and validate the technical, economic, institutional, and policy dimensions of scalable housing technologies aimed at addressing Ethiopia’s growing urban housing demand.

The program officially commenced with welcoming remarks by Eng. Tamrat Mulu, Director of CMI, followed by presentations covering key sections of the study, including technology assessment, economic feasibility, site selection, and institutional readiness. These presentations were followed by an interactive discussion session, emphasizing the importance of integrated planning, strong institutional arrangements, and local industrial development to ensure the long-term sustainability and scalability of housing solutions.

The workshop concluded with a plenary discussion and closing remarks by H.E. W/ro Chaltu Sani, Minister for the Ministry of Urban and Infrastructure Development, and Eng. Tamrat Mulu, reaffirming the government’s commitment to evidence-based policymaking and strategic partnerships to transform Ethiopia’s housing sector.

The validation workshop marked a significant milestone in advancing a nationally relevant, technically sound, and economically viable roadmap for massive affordable housing construction in Ethiopia, contributing directly to urban development, job creation, and inclusive economic growth.
